The Hightower family is bringing even more internal drama to House of the Dragon Season 3. Freddie Fox (Gwayne Hightower) recently opened up about the dynamic between Gwayne and his uncle Ormund Hightower to Decider, revealing a mix of loyalty, respect, and competing ambitions; especially when it comes to influencing their nephew, the young Prince Daeron Targaryen.

  • He says they might want different things
  • But their main goal is to mold Alicent’s son Daeron

Familial loyalty with a Machiavellian edge

Fox described Ormund as a formidable new character with a distinct personality (complete with his signature sniffing salts). When asked about Hightower alliances this season, he gave this answer:

“Yes and no. I mean, you see there is a sort of certain familial loyalty and respect for Ormund’s, albeit slightly Machiavellian (deceptive), intelligence.”

While Gwayne respects his cousin’s cunning mind, the two don’t always see eye to eye. Fox hinted at growing friction as they both try to shape the direction of a key new character (widely believed to be Daeron):

“A new character coming into this season who both Ormund and Gwayne feel like they can influence and exert their influence over. And they both have very different worldviews on how that person should be influenced. And it’s a source of great pride and importance to them both.”

What this means for the Hightowers

This setup promises rich family drama within the Green faction. Ormund’s more calculating, ambitious approach clashes with Gwayne’s perspective, creating tension even among supposed allies.

Their competing efforts to mold Alicent’s son, Daeron, could have major ripple effects on the war effort and the Hightower legacy.

Freddie Fox’s comments suggest that Season 3 will explore not just the larger conflict between Greens and Blacks, but also the personal power struggles happening behind the scenes in House Hightower.
