Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has faced weather‑related setbacks in Gran Canaria, but showrunner Ira Parker insists the series remains on schedule. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Parker explained that the team has been forced to pause filming due to persistent rain, yet contingency plans are in place to keep production moving.

Quick read:

  • Heavy rain in Gran Canaria has delayed filming.
  • Crew is making alternate plans to stay on track.
  • Season 2 adapts The Sworn Sword novella.

Parker on filming delays

Parker described the current situation candidly: “We’re hanging out in a hotel in Grand Canary waiting for the rain to pass. It’s good. You know, we’re doing our thing. We’re making plans and making alternate plans, and at this point, we just, I guess, need a little bit of luck. I don’t know.” He added that the crew is hoping for “hot, dry, blue skies” — the opposite of the rain Dunk faces in the story.

Why the production remains steady

Despite the weather, Parker emphasized that the production team had prepared for potential setbacks. Backup sites and flexible scheduling allow filming to continue once conditions improve. The delays have not altered HBO’s rollout strategy, with season 2 still expected to premiere in 2027 following House of the Dragon season 3.

What season 2 will explore

Season 2 adapts The Sworn Sword, the second Dunk and Egg novella. The story sees Dunk wading into feudal politics, navigating disputes between lords while Egg learns more about his Targaryen heritage. New characters will be introduced, expanding the world beyond the intimate journey of season 1.
