The stripped‑down saga of Dunk and Egg isn’t suddenly turning into a dragon‑sized spectacle. Showrunner Ira Parker confirmed in a finale interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Season 2 will keep the same budget as Season 1, even as inflation and new production challenges push costs higher. With six episodes once again, the second season promises to maintain the earthy, grounded feel that defined the show’s debut — only this time, the setting itself will demand more creative solutions.

Parker on Season 2’s scope and budget
Parker explained that the scope of Season 2 will remain similar to Season 1, perhaps even smaller. He emphasized that while the budget hasn’t increased, inflation means everything costs more now. The production faces new challenges because book two takes place during a drought, making Belfast unsuitable for exteriors. Instead, the team must move to a sunny location with no water — a major expense they didn’t face in Season 1. Despite these hurdles, Parker said he’s enjoying the process and believes the stripped‑down approach will continue to serve the story well.
Parker revealed: “It’ll still be six episodes. I think the scope will be the same, maybe even smaller. The budget has stayed the same, but everything is more expensive due to inflation. Plus, book two takes place in a drought, so we can’t shoot exteriors in Belfast. We have to go to a sunny location with no water, which costs money — that’s a major expense that we did not have in season one.”

Why Season 2 will feel different
For Parker, the challenge of Season 2 isn’t about expanding scope but about deepening tone. He stressed that the stripped bareness of Season 1 will not only continue but intensify, exposing the raw fabric of the characters’ being. Without dragons or spectacle, the show leans into land, people, and survival, making the earthy feel its defining trait. Parker teased that this creative choice will make Season 2 “really interesting,” promising a different season that still honors the grounded spirit of Dunk and Egg’s journey.

Parker added: “I’m having a lot of fun with season two. It’s going to be a different season, and, I hope, for the better.”
