A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms showrunner Ira Parker has opened up about the valuable lessons he learned while working on House of the Dragon, particularly the influence of series co-creator and showrunner Ryan Condal.
In an interview with Awards Buzz, Parker reflected on his time in the House of the Dragon writers’ room and how it continues to guide his approach to leading his own show.

Learning from Ryan Condal
When asked if his experience on House of the Dragon helped shape his work on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Parker shared:

“My title there was co-executive producer, but really I was in the writers’ room. It was a pre-pandemic writers’ room in Los Angeles, and it was a fantastic experience. Ryan Condal is a writer’s writer. One of the biggest things I took away from him was how he treated people. He handled his writers and collaborators with a tremendous amount of grace, and that definitely influenced how I try to lead my own team.”
Parker’s praise highlights Condal’s reputation as a collaborative and respectful leader, qualities Parker is actively carrying into Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
A different kind of challenge
Parker also touched on the unique circumstances of working on House of the Dragon during the pandemic:
“As far as the production side goes, I wasn’t in London during filming. They were dealing with production during the pandemic, which must have been incredibly challenging, while I was back in my Silver Lake apartment.”
This distance from the physical production allowed Parker to focus more on the writing process, an experience that clearly left a positive mark on him. The impact of Condal’s leadership style is already visible in how Parker is approaching Dunk & Egg.
The emphasis on grace, collaboration, and respect in the writers’ room has helped create a healthy creative environment for the spin-off series, which is known for its more intimate, character-driven storytelling.
Parker’s comments paint a picture of a showrunner who values people as much as the story itself, something that bodes well for the future of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
