With filming having wrapped in Spain and several cast members already finished with their scenes, we’re entering the final leg of shooting on Game of Thrones season 8. At the moment, all eyes are focused on the enormous King’s Landing set the production has built on a backlot at Titanic Studios in Belfast; they’ve built an entire city street, with a gate at one end the entrance to the Red Keep at the other. There’s no hiding this set from the prying eyes of the public, especially when Beck is playing nearby at the Biggest Weekend music festival.
Over the course of the last few months, we’ve watched the crew build the set up…and then we’ve watched them tear parts of it down, mussing it up for what we think will be a major action scene. For example, at one point the towers to either side of the city gate looked like this:
These days, not so much:
Yep, King’s Landing will take a beating come 2019. The culprit? It’s not hard to figure out. There are only so many creatures who could reduce stone towers to fire-damaged rubble like that.
And the towers aren’t the only structure that will feel the heat. Case in point: a couple months back, the crew added a dome to the set skyline, a dome modeled after the one atop St. Blaise’s Church in Dubrovnik, a real-life city that’s stood in for King’s Landing for years. Here it is in happier days:

So whatever airborne fire-breathing creature may or may not have attacked the city gate also came for this dome. Pray for King’s Landing. And thanks to for continuing to snap all these shots!
