The friendship between A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms stars Dexter Sol Ansell (Egg) and Peter Claffey (Dunk) has grown both on and off set, with playful rivalries shaping their downtime. In a new interview, Ansell revealed that while he initially dominated their chess matches, Claffey’s skills improved thanks to coaching from co‑star Finn Bennett (Aerion).
Quick read:
- Ansell and Claffey bonded over chess games on set.
- Finn Bennett taught Claffey strategies to even the score.
- Ansell says their matches now go back and forth.
Chess rivalry with a twist
Ansell explained: “We’re definitely best friends. Off‑camera and on set we always played chess games. We’re pretty even now. At the start I was definitely much better, but then Finn Bennett, who plays Aerion, taught Peter some things and now it goes back and forth.” His comments highlight how Bennett’s involvement turned their friendly rivalry into a balanced contest.

Beyond the chessboard
Ansell added that their friendship extends to weekend arcade trips: “Most weekends we go to the arcade and play Mario Kart. I beat him though. I’m serious. When you beat him, you’re better than Peter. (Laughs)” The playful competition underscores the cast’s bond, blending serious work on set with lighthearted fun off camera.
