Which Game of Thrones characters will be left standing in the season eight finale is anyone’s guess – if there’s any at all – but Peter Dinklage has warned fans they’re ‘in for it’ when the fantasy epic returns.
The 49-year-old opened up about Tyrion Lannister’s end game, though of course he’s keeping the hero’s fate a closely guarded secret.
‘There are no better writers in television than [showrunners] Dan Weiss and David Benioff,’ he told Entertainment Tonight. ‘They ended it brilliantly. Better than I could have imagined and you people are in for it.’
He teased: ‘It ends beautifully for my character, whether it be tragic or not.’
For the first and last time we ever say this – roll on the winter…
Dinklage was recently forced to shut down a popular Game of Thrones fan theory – which he accidentally started during the acceptance speech for his latest Emmy Award.
The GoT fandom has been obsessed with the idea of a third Targaryen sibling in the midst since Daenerys Targaryan heard in a vision: ‘The dragon has three heads.’
In turn, all eyes have been pointing at Tyrion.
So, when the actor got on stage to add another gold statuette to his collection, and gave a shout out to co-star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau by referring to him as ‘my brother from another mother’, all hell broke loose.
‘I love all of that,’ he chuckled on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. ‘I like to think that I would be smart enough not to just blurt out spoilers in front of the four viewers of the Emmys.’
Off the back of winning his record-breaking Emmy, now tying with Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul for the most wins in the Best Supporting Actor category, Dinklage is about to star in the new HBO movie, My Dinner with Hervé.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2019. Seasons one to seven are currently available to stream on NOW TV.
