Game Of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie put herself forward for an Emmy nomination last month and pulled it out the bag – and now she’s revealed why.

The 40-year-old actress, who played the infamous Brienne of Tarth in the HBO fantasy-drama series, wasn’t put forward for consideration in the upcoming esteemed awards so decided to take matters into her own hands.

‘It’s something I find hard to do, like everyone else, but I would like to be in charge of my own destiny,’ Gwendoline explained.

‘And I would like to endeavor to give myself opportunities. Particularly when working very hard on something very special and you’ve pushed yourself beyond your limits.’

She continued to Los Angeles Times that she researched whether it was an appropriate thing to do and went for it to make a ‘testament to the character’.

Gwendoline’s co-stars Carice Van Houten and Alfie Allen also put themselves forward for their season eight performances and it’s a good thing they did as they also received acting nods.

Game Of Thrones is up for a whopping 32 awards this year – the most for any programme ever for a single season – with all the main cast, including Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams, nominated across various categories.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel comes in second with 20 nominations while Sky Atlantic drama Chernobyl has 19 nominations.

Meanwhile, Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh will battle it out off-screen for the best actress in a drama award for their performances in Killing Eve, while the comedy thriller series received nine nominations in total.

On top of that, Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag received an incredible 11 nods.

The 71st Emmy awards ceremony will take place on 22 September.

Game Of Thrones is available to watch on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
