The Game Of Thrones team have been going to extreme measures to hide spoilers ahead of the season 8 return – so we felt awful for Maisie Williams as she made an epic slip up on Jimmy Fallon.

Maisie, who plays Arya Stark on the fantasy epic, ran off the set in a panic after accidentally letting slip that her character didn’t make it past the second episode of the final season.

Thankfully, it turned out to be an April Fools’ Day prank, but boy – did we fall for it!

The actress and the host were discussing the new series and the emotional filming that took place as she prepared to say goodbye to Westeros forever.

However in the midst of the discussion she dropped a massive bombshell when she said she was upset that Arya didn’t make it so far into the show, before clapping her hands around her mouth.

Demanding to know if the interview was live or not, Jimmy seemed concerned as he reassured her that it wasn’t and it could be cut – but she didn’t trust the audience, convinced they would tweet out the spoiler as soon as the show was done.

Visibly shaking in her hands, the young actress looked completely confused as the interview was immediately halted.

Trying to regain her composure, Maisie couldn’t take it and ran off the set, causing Jimmy to chase after her to make sure she was OK.

Thankfully, after giving us all a heart attack (the audience were stunned to silence), the cheeky pair pulled back the curtain and joked: ‘April Fools!’

Good one you guys, we’re going to need the next two weeks just to calm down!

With only 13 days (not that we’re counting) to go before the new series airs, fans are grabbing everything and anything they can to spark a new fan theory over what could happen.

It had only been suggested earlier that day that, with the launch of two new trailers, that Arya was in trouble, after being seen frantically running through a maze of corridors, appearing fearful for her life.

After being reunited with her brother, Jon Snow, he can also be heard saying: ‘It’s just us now’ though it’s unclear who exactly it was he was talking to.

Now, after proving herself to be quite the troll for the fan theorists, it turns out we can’t trust anyone over what we can expect to come in the upcoming series.

The 14 April can’t come soon enough, to be honest.

Game Of Thrones returns 14 April on HBO and Sky Atlantic.
