At least, that’s according to Goldman’s husband, chat show host Jonathan Ross. Ross made the comments while speaking to HELLO! Online at the BFI Luminous Gala. “I’m not going to say anything apart from the fact that [Jane] has just finished it,” he said. Then, a bit later, he got to joking. “Well, she’s written it all around me…I’m a dragon in it. No, I can’t talk about it. Sorry.”
Goldman is one of five writers tapped to develop potential Game of Thrones prequel series for HBO. Each of them is working with A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin on the scripts, although the degree to which he’s involved in each one likely differs from project to project. Of the five shows, Goldman has been the most forthcoming about hers, saying that it would be “recognizable” to fans, and that it would involve humor and gore, two of her specialities.
The debut date for any potential prequel is still up in the air, although HBO programming president Casey Bloys has stressed that nothing will air before the main series is over. But if Goldman has completed her script, we’re one step closer.
Besides Goldman’s project, we know the most about the prequel being developed by Game of Thrones staff writer Bryan Cogman. George R.R. Martin, who has worked with Cogman for years, has said he’s “co-creating” that one. “Bryan’s series will be an adaptation, and one that will thrill most fans of the books, I think, set during a very exciting period of Westerosi history,” he added.
Beyond that, mum’s the word — the other writers haven’t weighed in. Perhaps someone needs to interview their spouses?
