Game of Thrones star Sean Bean headlines a new BBC four-part drama titled Marriage.

Written and directed by Stefan Golaszewski, the show sees husband Ian (Bean) and Emma (Last Tango in Halifax‘s Nicola Walker) navigating the highs and lows of their 30-year marriage.

“We see them dealing with the insecurities, the ambiguities, the hopes and the fears that are part of all marriages, as the drama explores the risks and the gifts of a long-term intimate relationship. Sometimes funny, sometimes moving, always revealing,” teased a description.

Screen veteran James Bolam (New Tricks) is onboard as Emma’s dad Gerry, while Henry Lloyd-Hughes (The Inbetweeners) plays her boss Jamie and Chantelle Alle (We Are Lady Parts) fills the role of the couple’s daughter Jessica.

The show is scheduled to air later this year.

Just before Christmas, Digital Spy sat down with Bean to reflect on Lord of the Rings, 20 years since his gripping turn as Boromir in The Fellowship of the Ring.

“It was just such a wonderful experience to be part of something that, you know, I’d read as a teenager, and I read it quite thoroughly. And that was it. I put the book down. And then to be asked to play the part of Boromir – all the characters are kind of set in stone now. They’re kind of legendary,” he said.

“To do that was such a great thing to be able to do. I never thought it would take off as it did, you know? We weren’t aware of what they were doing with all the other units, and how they were putting it all together.”

Marriage will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.
