Before Game of Thrones season eight, the fantasy epic was cemented as the best of best; a pioneer in the golden age of television. Now its legacy is a rouge coffee cup and a sneaky bottle of water.
But it turns out there was a much bigger blunder glaring at us as Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) torched down King’s Landing and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) got the death of a hero she in absolutely no way, shape or form deserved.
Game of Thrones fans have come to know King’s Landing well from Cersei’s all-encompassing view from the top of her tower. They’ve gazed longingly at the seas and the endless landscape separating her from the North, as well as the mountains – which somehow vanished in the Battle of King’s landing way before Dany and her dragon burned the place to a crisp.
A Reddit user has brought the alarming mishap to our attention with a photo from season six next to another shot from the last chapter, and suddenly Jaime Lannister’s (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) miracle hand growing back doesn’t seem like that much of an oversight after all.
‘Remember when Kings Landing had Mountains?’ wrote Redditor BelgianVictim. Turns out showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss didn’t as well as the list of forgotten storylines which ended up nowhere.
Hopefully all will be redeemed when Game of Thrones returns with its prequel in 2020, as filming is already well underway in Belfast.
Currently in production under the working title Bloodmoon, we’re about to go way back thousands of years before Ned Stark’s head was plonked on a spike to visit The Age of Heroes – aka the first arrival of the White Walkers.
After delaying Game of Thrones season eight over fears they didn’t want to rush into anything, disappoint fans and completely tarnish the best part of a decade – which really paid off – HBO boss Casey Bloys insisted the broadcaster are in no rush to release Bloodmoon.
‘What I’m not doing is working backwards by saying, “This has to be on the air by this date.”‘
He added: ‘I don’t want to speculate any dates.’
Game of Thrones seasons one to eight are available to stream on NOW TV.
