Warning: Spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8 episode 6.

Game of Thrones’ series finale smashed all previous viewing records like Daenerys smashed King’s Landing.

The last ever episode, The Iron Throne, drew in an audience of 13.6 million viewers in linear viewership, reports TVLine.

This beat out the previous record of 12.5 million which was set by episode five, The Bells, last week.

The Iron Throne is now HBO’s most watched ‘single telecast’ ever after The Sopranos season four premiere.

A staggering 19.3 million viewers tuned into HBO, HBO GO and HBO Now last night – and that’s before many Sky Atlantic viewers have had a chance to tune in tonight at 9pm on this side of the pond.

Sky Atlantic is currently in the middle of a social media blackout to avoid spoiling anything for their viewers.

There have been largely mixed reactions to the finale, with many fans already disappointed with a poorly written season eight overall.

However, Metro.co.uk deems the ending ‘impressive’ and it has a slightly better rating on Rotten Tomatoes (56 percent) than The Bells which has a measly 47 percent.

Now we have to hope HBO deliver on that potential Arya Stark spin-off

Game of Thrones season 8 is currently streaming on Now TV.
