It’s almost here: the final six episodes of the biggest show on television. Filming on Game of Thrones season 8 is long since over, editing is ongoing, and HBO is officially ready to begin rolling out what is sure to be an epic marketing blitz. It started with a supercut showcasing highlights from the show’s past, together with a gift: the premiere month. Watch!
The final season of Game of Thrones will premiere…in April 2019! Gets the blood pumping, doesn’t it?
There’s also an abbreviated version of the supercut on HBO’s Instagram account:
For the record, we also have a guess as to the exact date in April, although we can’t know for certain.
To promote the final episodes, HBO will launch #FortheThrone, “a multi-phased, global marketing campaign that will unfold over the months leading into the final season.” It will highlight the extremes various characters have gone through to sit on the most uncomfortable chair in Westeros. In addition to that supercut, we’ll be getting character posters shared across official Game of Thrones social media platforms, an outdoor marketing presence in New York and Los Angeles (including a limited run of 250,000 Game of Thrones-themed metrocards for New York City commuters) and a custom emoji that will appear whenever fans tweet #GoTS8, #GoT, #ForTheThrone or #PorElTrono.
This is a big TV event — HBO is gonna go all in. Brace yourselves.
