Does a roller-coaster have a counter weight? Perhaps it is not an elevator… per se.
I also think that when Benjen tells Jon "we'll speak again when I return" is a call back to when Ned tells Jon that they'll talk about his mother next time they see each other, which also never happens.
I think the payoff with Tyrion saying "Take care, Snow" is that each time someone has said bye to him (Ned, Robb, Benjen) they all say "the next time I see you" etc, and they've all ended up dead (with exception to Benjen, but he said he couldn't pass the wall). Tyrion simply saying take care kinda foreshadows to me that they will meet again.
Jon has almost a replica conversation with Stannis, as Tyrion did with Benjen. He mentions the Wildlings having been born on the other side of the Wall and them being like Northmen. I think this hints that Jon and Tyrion will ally.
The riderless horse is george rr martin salute to his favorite author J. RR. Tolkien. Lord of the rings quote from king Theodan. "Where is the horse and the rider, where is the horn that was blowing, they have passed like rain on the mountain, like wind in the meadow The days have gone down in the west like the hills into shadow". http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0000155/quotes
As a vet who is now subject to panic attacks, when I first heard wood go go to steel, I thought is was a more typical PTSD flash back that haunt many of my fellow vets. It certainly had the right emotional flavor. The innocent, playfulness of exuberant youth giving way to the blood, death, terror and guilt that is combat of any era. I must not have been paying close attention when I read through the book after watching the show because it never clicked.
Brand new subscriber! Love this series ! Thank you😊
Brave Arya Flint. She is going to die in the snow in the end. She will go off alone like a bad ass and die while the pack survives.
When Jon first goes up the elevator, the crossbeam looked like a big Bolton X to me. Not Your Theon!
I always thought Ned was thinking about Lyanna, a good fighter, while he was watching Arya. But I never caught on that the wood swords turned to steel in his mind. The tower of joy battle brings it all together.
@smokescreen did you notice that like Ned that his uncle made the same promise about speaking when they return and both hasn't happened?
Nice parallel of scene syrio forel training arya and ned reminded the tower of joy flashback fight against The Sword of the Morning.
Benjen has the same scar on his left side (of his face) as jon does on the right. I just noticed that
Is it possible that Jon's uncle knows the truth about him as well?
I'd be more inclined to believe that Benjen saying "we'll speak when I return" was a sure sign Jon wasn't going to see him again because that's what Ned promised him too. The show replaced Coldhands with Benjen; we know he wasn't meant to be Coldhands.
Hmm. Can we say that the cut from Maester Aemon to Dany's dragon eggs foreshadows the reveal of him being a Targaryen?
Also (probably even more of a stretch) Tyrion's line about "it's better to be a rich cripple" might be foreshadowing that Bran isn't going to live the life of a rich cripple, that he's going to have to go sleep rough for a bit while fulfilling his destiny. (Might also indicate that Tyrion's going to have to do the same thing, now I think about it.)
So Ned has PTSD.
I've watched each episode about 11 times and never noticed the sound of wood to steel. I love that you pointed that out! Love learning new things!
great montage btw when ned drifted off seeing syrio and arya train.
holy dick!!!!!!!!
