Itâs a miracle Sansa Stark is still standing in Game of Thrones when so many poignant, loved, and hated warriors have fallen before her.
But here we are, sheâs sulking over Winterfell and if the season eight teaser, which saw Daenerys Targaryenâs arrival in The North is anything to go by she doesnât cheer up at all when we meet her next.
So why is Sansa (played by Sophie Turner) still there? With the absence of Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen) thereâs very little about the former Lady Lannisterâs next chapter to get excited about â unless, of course, sheâs been the most important cog in Westeros all along and actually weâre going to be talking about her swansong for the rest of our dying days.
Our newfound anticipation for Sansa comes after Vladimir Furdik, who stars as The Night King, finally shed light on whatâs really going on behind those illuminated eyes and revealed the leader of the army of the dead does have a motive.
The Slovakian-born actor speaks publicly as much as The Night King does on screen, so it was a real treat when he told Entertainment Weekly: âPeople will see he has a target he wants to kill and you will find out who that is.â
Jon Snowâs (Kit Harington) too obvious, as is anyone else whoâs emerged as serious contenders for the Iron Throne, but since the beginning of season one thereâs been suspicions that something dark is lurking in the Winterfell crypts, which we believe was confirmed in the season eight trailer, which you can look at tomorrow.
What is Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) running away from? The young rascal is literally legging it for her life in what appears to be an empty House Stark, which presumably takes place when everyone else is out in âthe biggest battleâ TV â the one that made the cast âreally miserableâ.
So is the epic battle between the living and the dead actually one big decoy to distract Sansaâs protectors and leave her vulnerable in House Stark?
Reddit user u/Anebbtus also notes that in the books of George RR Martin, the Night King is also married to a women âwho appeared to be a white walker and was supposedly a Starkâ.
Theyâve kept Sansa alive for reasons unknown to us, unless she is basically the course of season eight, in which case we take it all back and canât wait to binge on six weeks of Lady Stark.
Who do you think is The Night Kingâs target? Arya? Jon? Daenerys? A Burger King?
Thankfully, as of today, there is exactly one month to go until Game of Thrones returns to Sky Atlantic and HBO on April 14. The countdown has begun.
