Game of Thrones season eight is just days away after what seemed like an endless two-year wait and the world is eager to catch up with fan-favourite Arya Stark (played by Maisie Williams) who returns with her deadly kill list.
Arya’s kill list has been a constant threat to her neighbours on the HBO epic since season two when the then child’s life was torn apart, leading her on an epic journey from Westeros to the North, to Harrenhall, Braavos and finally back home to Westeros.
The death of her father Ned Stark (Sean Bean) and subsequent murders of her mother Catelyn (Michelle Friarly) and brother Robb (Richard Madden) have seen her list grow over time.
Arya’s ritualistic incantation of the names is now synonymous with the series.
‘Cersei Lannister, The Mountain, The Red Woman, Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr, Ilyn Payne, The Hound, Walder Frey, Meryn Trant, Joffrey, Twyin Lannister, Polliver.’
Her lethal assassin skills acquired up until this point have led her to successfully kill a number of her targets but some remain, some died in other ways and some may be off the hook.
Still Alive
Cersei Lannister
Cersei (Lena Heady) is on Arya’s list for the role she played in killing her father, and countless other horrible deeds.
The Mountain
Arya wants The Mountain aka Gregor Clegane (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson) dead for his part in leading the horrific tortures at Harrenhall while she was there.
We’re not sure if she’ll manage to pull this one off in season eight considering the Mountain is an undead zombie creature now, but we know better than to underestimate Arya at this stage.
The Red Woman
Melisandre (Carice van Houten) got on Arya’s bad side when she captured Gendry (Joe Dempsie) for king’s blood magic purposes.
We don’t think the priestess is a particularly high priority on Arya’s list anymore.
Ilyn Payne
Ilyn Payne (Wilko Johnson) was the executioner who carried out Ned’s beheading.
He has since been phased out as a character and is unlikely to return.
The Hound
The Hound aka Sandor Clegane (Rory McCann) and Arya had a complicated relationship but she initially wanted him dead for killing stable boy Mycah on Joffrey’s (Jack Gleeson) orders.
She left him for the dead the last time they appeared on the series together but we think he’s off the hook now too.
Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr
These two Brotherhood Without Banners members also caused Arya grief when they allowed Melisandre to take Gendry at the Lord of Light’s behest.
Thoros (Paul Kaye) died on Jon Snow’s (Kit Harington) mission beyond the Wall last season but Beric (Richard Dormer) survived and appeared in the season eight trailer.
Again, will Arya still hold a grudge strong enough to want him dead in season eight?
Dead
Walder Frey
Arya killed Walder Frey (John Bradley) for his part in the Red Wedding.
Meryn Trant
Member of the Kingsguard Meryn Trant (Ian Beattie) was killed by Arya for killing her swordmaster Syrio Forel (Miltos Yerolemou).
Joffrey
Joffrey was poisoned by Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg) in season four. Arya wanted him dead for a number of reasons but mainly for killing her father.
Twyin Lannister
Charles Dance’s Twyin Lannister was on the list for betraying the Starks and orchestrating the Red Wedding. He was killed by Tyrion while sitting on the toilet.
Polliver
Polliver (Andy Kellegher) was the Lannister soldier who killed Arya’s friend Lommy (Eros Vlahos). Arya got her revenge by stabbing him with Needle.
Game of Thrones season 8 premieres on HBO on April 14 and will air on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV on April 15.
