Throwing a “Game of Thrones” watching party? You’ll need some suitable sips…
Brewery Ommegang has just released the latest in its series of Westeros-inspired — and HBO approved — brews, which include the King in the North, a barrel-aged imperial stout, and the Hand of the Queen, a barleywine ale. Now comes Ommegang’s For the Throne, a strong golden ale fermented with pinot grigio and viognier grape juices and then bottle conditioned with Champagne yeast — because no Lannister is going to drink something made with non-swanky yeast. It’s available throughout the seven kingdoms (and also Bay Area BevMos, Whole Foods Markets and other retail outlets).
And if whiskey’s more your speed, Johnnie Walker is offering up cocktail recipes that use their, ahem, White Walker spirits to conquer — or perhaps salute — the Army of the Dead. Of course, you could sip the limited-edition whiskey neat. Or take a few tips from Florida mixologist Gabe Orta, of Miami’s Bar Lab, and serve up a cocktail, like the The Night King’s Sour or an Army of the Dead.
Here are his bar recipes:
The Night King’s Sour
1 ounce White Walker by Johnnie Walker
½ ounce blue curacao
½ ounce lemon juice
½ ounce white grape juice
½ ounce vanilla syrup
1 egg white
Directions:Â Add all ingredients into a shaker. Add ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a rocks glass and serve with dragons.
Army of the Dead
1.25 ounce White Walker by Johnnie Walker
5 ounces coconut soda
Directions: Add ingredients to a highball glass, add ice and stir for 2 seconds. Garnish with a lemon wheel and a mint sprig.
