Game of Thrones fans don’t get too excited because after this final season, that’s it. It’s over.

Due to the current trend of TV reboots and revivals, the HBO show could fall naturally into one of the favourites to be given an overhaul and brought back to our screens while the original cast move on.

Sure a mourning period isn’t too much to ask for?

While most shows have ended for years – we’re talking X Files, Dancing On Ice and even Twin Peaks – GoT fans were wondering if the show could just get a revival after it ends following its eighth season.

But no.

‘That’s not happening,’ HBO boss Casey Bloys told The Hollywood Reporter.

‘This story, A Song of Fire and Ice, is done. There’s no revival, reboot, spinoff talk.’

Wait, did he say there’s no spin-off?

Last year, HBO are said to be working on a fifth prequel to Game Of Thrones.

The fantasy drama, starring Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke, is smash hit, so it’s not surprising that they want to do as much as possible with it.

Variety say that writer Bryan Cogman is on board to write the project. Cogman has worked on Thrones since season one.

George RR Martin, the author of the books that GoT is based on, seems to be a fan of Cogman. When he spoke of landing a fifth prequel writer earlier this year, he said: ‘I don’t know anyone who knows and loves Westero as well as he does.’ Apart from Martin himself of course.

Cogman has written such episodes as The Broken Man and Stormborn.

He joins the other four writers: Max Borenstein, Jane Goldman, Brian Helgeland and Carly Wray.

Deadline revealed back in May that each of the prequels would ‘explore different time periods of George RR Martin’s vast and rich universe’.

Martin is said to be co-writing two of the projects, while Game Of Thrones showrunners Dan Weiss and Dan Benioff are on board as executive producers.

Game of Thrones returns next year on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK.
