A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is heading to the sunny Canary Islands in Spain for its second season. Prominent Spanish media outlet, Los Seite Reinos, confirmed that filming with the principal cast will begin in April 2026 in Gran Canaria, specifically around the scenic Presa de Las Niñas reservoir.

Why is the production moving to Spain?
The picturesque location of the Presa de Las Niñas reservoir, which includes camping and recreational areas, has been reserved from late February through mid-May 2026. Production crews are already preparing medieval-style structures built from pine trunks and installing artificial gardens to recreate the required drought-stricken landscape.
This story sees Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg caught in a tense land dispute amid a dry spell in the Reach. This is a setting that the Canary Islands’ terrain is perfectly suited to portray. The news follows earlier hints from showrunner Ira Parker about expanding the world, including possible Dornish elements.
Local Spanish outlets such as Diario de Avisos and Los Siete Reinos broke the exclusive, noting that while technical prep is already underway, the main cast is not expected on location until April. Fans have reacted with excitement online, with many noting how the warm, rugged environment will bring a fresh, sun-drenched feel to the road-trip-style adventures in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Current status of season 2’s production
The second season’s production has been going on since December 2025, starting with interior and some location shoots in Belfast, Ireland. As of interviews in January and February 2026, Parker confirmed they had completed about 10 days of shooting before a holiday break, and were “pretty deep into shooting” by late February, with plans to resume and continue for a total of around three months.
The move to Spain (specifically Gran Canaria) in April 2026 is for exterior scenes to capture the drought-stricken setting of The Sworn Sword novella, as the story requires a sunny, dry landscape that Belfast couldn’t provide, signaling the continuation of the same production. The second season is expected to premiere in 2027.
