MANILA — In collaboration with HBO and “Game of Thrones,” Johnnie Walker recently launched its newest limited-edition whisky in the Philippines — White Walker by Johnnie Walker.
Johnnie Walker celebrity brand ambassador Nico Bolzico led the recent launch at Run Rabbit Run in Makati’s Poblacion district which was peppered with “Game of Thrones” elements including an Iron Throne official replica that greeted guests at the door, blue lighting, smoke, and blaring “Game of Thrones” theme music.
Building on the excitement of the show’s much anticipated eighth and final season next year, whisky specialist George Harper along with Johnnie Walker’s expert blenders created a blend inspired by the White Walkers, the humanoid ice creatures who come from the Far North of Westeros.
Designed to be best enjoyed directly from the freezer, White Walker by Johnnie Walker is a blend of single malts from Cardhu and Clynelish distilleries in Scotland. The whisky has hints of cinnamon with an easy and moderately spicy finish. To those familiar with the Johnnie Walker line, the White Walker can be best described as what results when you mix the smokiness of Johnnie Walker Black and the sweetness that’s in the Gold Reserve.
It’s a versatile liquid to be mixed, as well. During the launch, Lester Ligon, Diageo’s 2018 Philippine Bartender of the Year, mixed cocktails using the White Walker.
Besides the limited quantity, the bottle itself is a collectible item, featuring an icy print reminding us of the Wall, as well as a Johnnie Walker Striding Man in full White Walker armor.
“I’m a huge fan of Game of Thrones. As a fan of the Game of Thrones, for me, it’s the coolest bottle! Not only because you have the Striding Man here dressed as a White Walker, [but] if you look at his eyes, you can see that it’s blue!” enthused Bolzico.
Another surprise? The label features temperature-sensitive ink technology, revealing “Winter is Here” when the bottle is frozen.
“White Walker by Johnnie Walker was created in celebration of the eighth and final season of the series, and is the perfect gift for Game of Thrones fans, or anyone who appreciates great Scotch whisky,” Cesar Gangoso, marketing director of Diageo Philippines, said.
While White Walker by Johnnie Walker is already available in major stores in Manila, it will officially be available in all leading supermarkets nationwide starting Monday, December 10, until supplies last.
