The core motivations of most of the Game of Thrones characters were ambition and the lust for power. Even in House of the Dragon, the entire house was hell-bent on consolidating power and being the only reigning family in King’s Landing. The thirst for supremacy was so massive that lines between relationships and families blurred, too.
However, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms offers a refreshingly different perspective. It is centered on a hedge knight, Ser Duncan’s story as he travels across Westeros in search of purpose and respect.
Peter Claffey reveals what drives Ser Duncan in life

Not every character in Westeros wants to be the king of the jungle. Ser Duncan proves that there are some people who will be happy with a simple life with just a roof over their head and good food on their table.
Actor Peter Claffey, who plays Dunk in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, said in the official Game of Thrones podcast,
I think Dunk is like– in his head, obviously, he’s not 100 percent clear on what he wants, but I think like, he just thinks, you know, “If I could be in some household and live under a roof and be able to have a drink of wine and have some bread in the evening and not fear for my life every night,” he’s like, “Yeah, that’d be great.” You know what I mean? That’s a low bar, but yeah. It’s terribly low. It’s Westeros, man.”
This simple motivation is keeping Ser Duncan alive as he finds his true purpose on the continent. He does not want the rags to riches story, but just a peaceful life where he can live ina proper house rather than camping under the stars every night.
Dunk and Egg actors have great chemistry in the show
Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on HBO
Though Dunk started his journey in the show all alone, he came across Egg, a young but feisty child who wished to accompany the knight in his travels. Both Claffey and Egg actor Dexter Sol Ansell have great chemistry on the show as their banter drives the narrative forward. Egg seems fearless and single-minded in his vision, while Dunk is still trying to figure out what he wants to do next.
Their dynamic is evolving with the story, and we see their loyalties to each other grow. Egg helps guide Dunk and encourages him to tap into his bravery while Dunk manages to keep Egg in check and ensures he does not get hurt.
