The final season of Game of Thrones is here, and beneath all the excitement there is the sad truth – it’s never going to come back. One way to cope with a GoT-less world is to rewatch the series all over again. That’s exactly what Kit Harington is going to do.

Game of Thrones made huge stars out of many a budding actor. Harington is perhaps the best example of this. In a recent interview with Mirror UK, the actor, who plays Jon Snow, shared his thoughts on life after Thrones, and how hard it was to say goodbye.

“I’m terribly sad about it ending and the words Game of Thrones are going to have the fondest feeling for me forever. I want to watch the final episode, go back and watch the whole thing once and then put it on the shelf and go, ‘Thank you’.

That’s how I’m going to say goodbye to it – watch what we did over eight years. It’ll take me hours and then I’ll really be done with it.”

The 32-year-old actor has several reasons to be fond of Game of Thrones. In 2011, Harington was a rookie drama school major and Jon Snow was an important side character at best. Eight years later, Jon is Aegon Targaryen, rightful heir to the Iron Throne and at the front and center of everything. Harington too has gone from a promising debutant to one of the highest paid actors on TV.

Harington is mindful of the time that has passed, and his transformation. He reflects,

“I look back at who I was when I started Thrones and it’s emotional because that Kit is so different from me today. That Kit was just amazed at everything but now when I’m on a red carpet and there are flashbulbs, I take it for granted.”

By now he is aware of both the perks and pitfalls of fame. In his own words,

“Fame is a really odd situation. There are times when I’ve been a p**k and been egotistical. But I have always had people around who have been truthful with me and put me right.”

Kit Harington will Watch the Whole of Game of Thrones Again to Say Goodbye

One of those people is surely his wife Rose Leslie, whom he met on Game of Thrones sets. Leslie’s Ygritte was Jon Snow’s first, tragic love, but now he has moved on to Daenerys Targaryen, portrayed on-screen by Emilia Clarke. The fact that Leslie and Clarke are fast friends in real life did produce some awkwardness in their onscreen intimacy. Harington cheekily explains,

“Even though you’re actors and it’s your job, there’s an element of weirdness when the three of us are having dinner and we had a kissing scene that day.”

Game of Thrones has given him much, but what comes after that? Not another eight-years-long epic fantasy drama for sure! Harington is quite done with that format.

“I’m looking at theatre, limited series and movies. TV has really developed, which means I can do interesting drama. Just not with too many seasons!” Harington signs off.
