Finn Bennett responds to Aerion speculation
On the red carpet for A24’s Backrooms, Finn Bennett was asked about the possibility of reprising his role as Aerion “Brightflame” Targaryen in season 2. He admitted that he doesn’t know if Aerion will return, given the character’s absence from George R. R. Martin’s later Dunk and Egg novellas. “Please! I don’t know. Let’s just wait and see. I was so happy with the way that series came out, and I’m so proud to be a part of it. So proud of Peter and Dexter, and I love all of them,” Bennett told ScreenRant.

Aerion’s book absence and adaptation possibilities
Aerion served as the primary antagonist in season 1, but he does not appear in The Sworn Sword or The Mystery Knight, the novellas expected to shape seasons 2 and 3. Still, co-creator Ira Parker has already made significant changes to the source material, leaving open the possibility of Aerion returning in some capacity. Parker has even discussed a 12–15 season plan for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which could eventually explore Aerion’s fate more fully.

Other Targaryen family uncertainties
While Aerion’s future is unclear, other family members also face uncertain returns. Actor Sam Spruell confirmed that Maekar Targaryen will not appear in season 2, though he left the door open for a possible comeback later. Similarly, Daeron Targaryen’s status remains unresolved, and fans continue to speculate whether Aemon Targaryen — later known as the beloved maester in Game of Thrones — could be introduced in season 2
