take a shot every time he says "okily-dokily"
New favorite insult. "You tanghole". (12:51 in the vid)
Ancient Japanese farmers in feudal Japan used simple woods for their katanas scabbard and handle so to easily disguise it in the fields they tended. Hence why a lot of katanas have no guard. Not only from thieves and highwayman but from government agents who would patrol and disarm the lower class. It’s but a fallen branch in the grass. So I personally think oak is fitting.
8:52 So close, but you don't carve in the gap for the nakago long-ways, as that would be incredibly difficult. You just chisel it in short-ways (the depth on each piece of wood is only half the thickness of the blade at the nakago). This is a lot faster and easier.
Dude, I think you used the rip cut size of your Kataba for a cross cut… If it didn't cut very easily, that's the reason why ! Next time try it the other way around
I came here because I thought you were making a Kardashian…..i was disappointed…..
Can I come see you Alec? You can teach me some black smithing and I'll teach you to sharpen woodworking tools and to use them moe effectively?
Tsuba not tsuka. Just sayin. 😉
Love your dad's woodworking shop, seems like a relaxing place to make something.
Hey alec, Would you ever have time to make another kiridashi or possibly even sell the one that you made in this video with the Damascus, and rot iron? Its by far the best looking one I've seen so far!!
Front of t-shirt: "Woodworking is not a real skill" Back of shirt: "…of mine".
what a beautiful mistake on the etch of the wrought iron!
The look of your Kiridashi is INCREDIBLE!
ALEX. I AND MANY OTHERS WOULD PURCHASE A TSUKA EXACTLY AS YOU MADE IT. 14 HOURS IN THE ETCH. PLEASE CONSIDER A RUN OF THESE. PLEASE PUT THAT KIND OF TSUKA ON YOUR WEB SITE.
THAT IS FREAKING AWESOME. I LOVE IT!!!!!
The kiridashi is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen! Leave more stuff in acid for 14 hours!
Please make Cloud's Buster Sword.
I think black or red oak would make a good looking handle.
The Kiridashi looks SO freakin' bomb now.
the kiridashi got like a withered drift wood look to it! looks awesome!
The wood grain etch from the "accident" looks good.
Always entertaining and informative. Funny what you can do with a megaton of energy, some decent kit, a considerable amount of graft and some mad skills.
Egads Alec, the Seppa is in the wrong place! Dunno if anuone else noticed that…
Wow!
14:00 What's the purpose of angling the plane at 45º?
Also, I really enjoy watching your progress in these mini-series. Keep it up, and good luck for the rest of the build!
00:40 "grinding on that kardashian"
anyone notisted the tekst on the acid bucket 😀
Best video! 😁😃 love it. Keep it up mate.
Alex please post a list of the songs you use in the videos because I'm searching like crazy for the song that is played on minute 5:01 and I still can't find it …. please help ….. and love your channel I love crafting everything from steel to stone and wood… like a crazy scientist, I'm actually called that 😂
Hey Alec, I think a huge challenge would be making an instrument, a drum cymbal for instance. I don't know, just seems fun.
I LOVE the etch in that wrought iron sooo much!
After seeing the wood grain on the Kiridashi came out I think the guard for the sword should go in to the acid for a while…..
wrap that sting ray bastard around the handle alex, especially after what he and his friends did to my main man Steve Erwin #neverforgive
One seppa? There are two at least on a katana.
would be cool to see your dad helping out with the woodworking you do. we'd probably all learn good things from him, and if he's anything like you, it'd be entertaining too! 😀
not a fan of this "creating extra content" business. and why not make the videos 20min long. little extra content per vid would be good.
Alec- A jointer and router will save you tons of time and aggravation.

The wrought iron looks really cool, maybe try that with pieces to other projects like a pommel or other finishings, just don't leave it for 14 hours lol
That's a wonderful mistake! The knife looks awesome with that finish! It looks aged and has an incredible look!
+ Alec Steele That marking knife really sucks, Alec. Just send it to me and I'll see if can fix it for you.
Dude!! Why didn’t you use the rosewood???!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhh
Why oak for the handle you asked yourself…. I suspect it's a British thing
ahhhh I love usin the old mans tools. My grandfather was a carpenter and stone mason in NJ and later ME for 6-7 decades and Dad used to go use his wood shop all the time. then as I came of age I would be in my dads garage using his tools periodically for various projects (considering he inherited many tools from my pop pop).
I hope to have a garage fool of tools and work benches my son can come use and not clean up and reorganize to my satisfaction some day!
your hand plane skills are on point too btw. its obviously like me u grew up with dem tools in hand.
Nothing sweeter than a sharp wood plane! Your father knows how to sharpen nice shavings flowing out👍
This reminded me of Bob Ross haha Just happy accidents my friend, turned out great and super unique.
I want the tomahawk
really wish he would have used olive it has grain patterns like no other wood
makes a knife to do the job of a box cutter, gotta love blacksmiths
