My name is Alec Steele and I am a 19 year old blacksmith from Norfolk in the United Kingdom. I upload a vlog from my day at the workshop almost every single day. Lots of sparks, lots of making, lots of fantastic-ness. Great to have you here following along!

What do I make? LOTS of Damascus steel, knives, swords, axes and more and of course, I always love hearing your suggestions for future projects in the comments below!

So if you want to see lots of forging fun, blacksmithing badassery, cinematic hammering and more in my Daily Vlog (#Daily_Steele) – please subscribe here by hitting that red button!

  1. Ancient Japanese farmers in feudal Japan used simple woods for their katanas scabbard and handle so to easily disguise it in the fields they tended. Hence why a lot of katanas have no guard. Not only from thieves and highwayman but from government agents who would patrol and disarm the lower class. It’s but a fallen branch in the grass. So I personally think oak is fitting.

  2. 8:52 So close, but you don't carve in the gap for the nakago long-ways, as that would be incredibly difficult. You just chisel it in short-ways (the depth on each piece of wood is only half the thickness of the blade at the nakago). This is a lot faster and easier.

  3. Hey alec, Would you ever have time to make another kiridashi or possibly even sell the one that you made in this video with the Damascus, and rot iron? Its by far the best looking one I've seen so far!!

  4. ALEX.  I AND MANY OTHERS WOULD PURCHASE A TSUKA EXACTLY AS YOU MADE IT.  14 HOURS IN THE ETCH.  PLEASE CONSIDER A RUN OF THESE.  PLEASE PUT THAT KIND OF TSUKA ON YOUR WEB SITE.

THAT IS FREAKING AWESOME.  I LOVE IT!!!!!

  5. Alex please post a list of the songs you use in the videos because I'm searching like crazy for the song that is played on minute 5:01 and I still can't find it …. please help ….. and love your channel I love crafting everything from steel to stone and wood… like a crazy scientist, I'm actually called that 😂

  6. would be cool to see your dad helping out with the woodworking you do. we'd probably all learn good things from him, and if he's anything like you, it'd be entertaining too! 😀

  7. ahhhh I love usin the old mans tools. My grandfather was a carpenter and stone mason in NJ and later ME for 6-7 decades and Dad used to go use his wood shop all the time. then as I came of age I would be in my dads garage using his tools periodically for various projects (considering he inherited many tools from my pop pop).

I hope to have a garage fool of tools and work benches my son can come use and not clean up and reorganize to my satisfaction some day!

your hand plane skills are on point too btw. its obviously like me u grew up with dem tools in hand.
