The prequel series to the iconic HBO Original show Game of Thrones is finally beginning to take shape. As of now, Paddy Considine has been cast as King Viserys I Targaryen, the successor of the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen. Now, he is joined by Matt Smith and Olivia Cooke as part of the cast. Smith is set to play Prince Daemon Targaryen, the younger brother to King Viserys and heir to the Iron Throne. Whereas, Cooke will play Alicent Hightower, the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King. And D’Arcy will play Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen is the king’s first-born child. And all of these characters have an immense history and role to play in House of the Dragon.

Matt Smith joining Game of Thrones prequel to fly dragons!

Matt Smith will be joining Westeros hundreds of years before the events of Game of Thrones. House of the Dragon is set at the peak of the reign of House Targaryen on the Seven Kingdoms. The series will explore the events that led to the infamous Targaryen civil war, the Dance of the Dragons. It not only leads to the death of many Targaryens but was also the reason for the death of all their dragons.

Matt Smith’s Prince Daemon is a dragonrider and a fearless warrior. He carries the blood of the dragon in his veins. However, as Ser Barriston Selmy said, whenever a Targaryen is born, the gods toss a coin. Moreover, Cooke’s Alicent Hightower will be the most attractive woman in all of the seven kingdoms. Raised in King’s Landing, Alicent is close to the King’s inner circle and possesses the skillful grace of the court as well as a political mind. And D’Arcy’s Princess Rhaenyra is one of the fiercest women in the history of Westeros. She is a dragonrider, with the blood of the dragon. She had everything, but things don’t go as planned because she was a woman, and not a man.

This is going to be an epic battle, that might pale anything that Game of Thrones created in comparison. Miguel Sapochnik, along with Clare Kilner, Geeta V. Patel, and Greg Yaitanes will be taking forward George R.R. Martin’s vision from the book series Fire & Blood, which is a part of his A Song of Ice and Fire series. Let’s see how Matt Smith fits into this franchise. House of the Dragon will debut in 2022, with shooting beginning in 2021.
