Who will sit the Iron Throne at the end of Game of Thrones? That’s the question on a lot of people’s minds heading into the final season of the show. HBO is thinking about it, too. After all, it’s made the official hashtag for season 8 “#ForTheThrone.”

It’s also of interest to the gambling community. Think about it: If you bet a ton of money on a long shot like Hot Pit ruling Westeros in the end, and it actually happens, you will clean up. Bookies have long given odds on Game of Thrones questions, with “Who will sit the Iron Throne in the end” being one of the most popular. For a while now, betting site OddsShark had Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen as the favorites, but just this week, a dark horse took the lead:

That’s right: Bran Stark is now the favorite “to be the ruler of Westeros” when the show is over. Note that the bet isn’t specifically for who will sit the Iron Throne, allowing for the possibility that there won’t be one.

Writing about the shift, OddsShark notes several theories linking Bran to the Night King, although I’m not sure how those make Bran more likely to lead the Seven Kingdoms. Beyond Bran, Jon and Dany are still pretty heavily favored, and Sansa and Gendry both moved up a couple spots.

Should you consult these odds when placing your Game of Thrones-related bets? It’s up to you. Personally, I like my Hot Pie idea.
