Look, let’s be real—if you watched the premiere of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, you immediately noticed that the show was going to break every expectation we had about the Game of Thrones universe. The opening? Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) literally pooping while the iconic Game of Thrones theme song plays. It’s the opposite of epic. It’s deliberately, unapologetically unglamorous. And according to Peter Claffey himself, it was also the most fun he’s had on a set in forever.
Quick read:
-
Peter Claffey had the funniest day on set filming the poop scene
-
Closed set kept filming intimate and chaotic in the best way
-
Director and cameraman couldn’t stop laughing during takes
The most restricted set for the most unrestricted moment
When Peter Claffey talked to DECIDER about the infamous scene, he couldn’t stop grinning about the experience. “That was probably the funniest day I’ve had on set, I think. Yeah, for sure,” the Dunk actor said. “Because it was a bit of a closed set, as well, because nobody wants to see my butt or anything like that.”
The logistics alone are hilarious—they actually had to keep the set smaller specifically so nobody would accidentally catch more of Claffey than absolutely necessary. This is the kind of practical consideration that never comes up in your average sword-and-sorcery production.

Pure chaos and genuine laughter behind the camera
Here’s where it gets even better. The crew wasn’t massive, which meant everyone was in on the bit. “So it was just the director and the cameraman [Sebastian Barraclough]. And Seb, he was just laughing his head off and I was laughing my head off and we had to just try and get at least ten or fifteen seconds without me laughing,” Claffey explained.
“And it was just great fun, so much fun.” Think about that for a second—they had to film multiple takes because Claffey kept cracking up. The cameraman was dying, Claffey was dying, and they were all just trying to get through it professionally while simultaneously failing at that task completely. That’s the energy A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms brought to the table from day one.
