Rey of Star Wars vs Game of Thrones Women

Mary Sue originated with a Star Trek episode. And yes, Rey is nothing but a Mary Sue.

Rey just appeared that way? Did you watch A Force Awakens too, she learned how to survive in a rough environment, created and hacked gizmos, dealt with life threats and starvation etc. She dealt with everything that comes her way, fighting with Kylo in the first movie, again with life on the line. Character development was not demonstrated in the same way mostly because it is a movie not a tv series with the luxury of illustrating every step along the way. She lost her surrogate father figure. She has been continually tested. Lack of struggle? She's faced every challenge, and resisted every temptation. You finally touch on the difference in storytelling between an 8 season tv show and 4 hours of film. If she was a guy she wouldn't be facing the same kind of criticism.
