Sophie Turner has officially opened the door to returning to Westeros—but she’s putting a price tag on it. In an exclusive interview with The Direct, the Game of Thrones star revealed that while she’s intrigued by the possibility of reprising Sansa Stark in one of HBO’s in-development sequels, she’d need the right financial offer and, more importantly, the right creative material to make it happen.
Quick read:
-
Turner joked “Show me the money” when asked about returning to play Sansa Stark in a sequel.
-
She called a potential return “hard but also amazing,” emphasizing the creative risks involved.
-
Turner will only consider it if HBO presents a script worthy of revisiting Sansa’s arc as Queen of the North.
Turner jokes about wanting a payday for a potential Sansa return
When asked directly about her interest in returning for a Game of Thrones sequel, Turner’s response was equal parts humorous and practical. “Show me the money (laughs). I don’t know, I think it would be hard but also amazing to come back to it.” The quip perfectly captures her ambivalence: she’s not shutting the door, but she’s also not eager to rush back without serious incentive—both monetary and creative.
Turner acknowledges that any return would present genuine challenges. Sansa’s arc as Queen in the North felt complete and satisfying, a rare achievement in the divisive Game of Thrones finale. Bringing her back risks either cheapening that victory or forcing unnecessary conflict just to justify the sequel’s existence. Yet Turner hasn’t written it off entirely; the right circumstances could make it work.
A Script Would Have to Be Extraordinary to Tempt Her
The real barrier to her return, Turner explained, would be finding material worthy of Sansa’s arc. “Maybe it would be an utter joy, or maybe it would be trying to cling on to something that was magic back in the day that can’t be recreated. I would have to see a script.”
This careful conditional—”I would have to see a script”—is Turner’s insurance policy. It protects both her time and the character’s legacy. If HBO presents something genuinely compelling that deepens rather than diminishes Sansa’s story, she’s open to reconsidering. But if the material doesn’t justify dragging her back into the fold, she has a built-in reason to say no.
