Stranger Things and Game of Thrones star Tom Wlaschiha is set to star in the biopic, Hilma.

According to Variety, the biopic will be directed by Lasse Hallström and will focus on the life of revolutionary Swedish artist and feminist pioneer Hilma af Klint. She became one of the West’s first abstract artists after breaking through the male-dominated art scene.

Wlaschiha (who plays Dmitri Antonov in the hit Netflix series) will play Rudolf Steiner, the Austrian artist and founder of the anthroposophical spiritual movement.

Steiner became a mentor and an important part of Hilma’s life and created over a thousand striking paintings, sketches, and watercolours that remained unknown decades after her death in 1944.

When talking about the character, Wlaschiha said: “Rudolf Steiner’s ideas and work influenced the enigmatic Hilma df Klint and her great art, and they continue to have an impact on us today.

“Exploring the life story of these people with Lasse and the cast has been great fun and an insightful journey.”

The English-language film will be available in theatres and on Scandinavia’s leading streaming service, Viaplay.

Meanwhile, British star Jazzy de Lisser (best known for playing Tansy in GoT) will star as Hilma’s closest friend and travel companion, Thomasine Andersson.

“It’s a privilege to bring to life this story about women who were very much ahead of their time,” de Lisser said.

The project will also be written by Hallström, who was nominated for “Best Director” in 2000 for the Tobey Maguire and Charlize Theron-led The Cider House Rules.

He also directed Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, Dear John starring Channing Tatum and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, as well as most of ABBA’s videography.

Hilma will also include international talent, with Lena Olin playing the lead role alongside Tora Hallström as a younger af Klint, Lily Cole (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) and I May Destroy You’s Rebecca Calder.

The film is currently in post-production, but no release date has been set.

Stranger Things seasons 1-4 are now streaming worldwide on Netflix.
