Not to be overshadowed by Westworld‘s Season Two trailer which dropped during the Super Bowl last weekend, Game of Thrones’ stars had a busy week in the public eye. Thrones‘ Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) had his own time to shine at the Super Bowl, championing Doritos in an ice and fire themed commercial which prompted some fans with perhaps a little too much time on their hands to try to glean some legitimate Game of Thrones spoilers from the ad. Dinklage was quick to address these rumors and reiterate that the commercial was just a bit of fun, and not a cryptic reference to Tyrion’s potential secret Targaryen bloodline.
Another GOT star also dazzled at the Super Bowl: Emilia Clarke debuted her new Star Wars character in the “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” Super Bowl trailer. Clarke will join Gwendoline Christie, Julian Glover, and Jessica Henwick among others in the list of Thrones actors who have found their way into a galaxy far, far away. Clarke plays the currently enigmatic female lead, Qi’Ra, in the film which premiers on May 25th.
Speaking of Star Wars, later in the week, the news dropped that Game of Thrones’ writers, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who spearheaded the show’s creation, will also be joining the Star Wars universe– by writing and producing their own movie for the franchise. Benioff and Weiss are clearly trying to line up projects to keep them busy as Thrones winds to an end, and after the enormous success they enjoyed with HBO, it will be interesting to watch them try out different mediums and modes of storytelling.
In other news, for you Funko Pop collectors out there, a new Game of Thrones one is coming out in the form of the form of the giant wight from Episode One of Season Seven, so be sure to snag him if you feel you need a blue eyed giant on your bookshelf.
