When actor Hafþór Júlíus ‘Thor’ Björnsson isn’t violently protecting Cersei Lannister in Game Of Thrones as The Mountain, the star is scooping up the title for strongest man in the world.

The 29-year-old Icelander has taken a leaf out of his fictional GOT character’s book after showing his strength and being crowned the World’s Strongest Man.

It’s been a long time coming for the former basketball player, who has ranked second in the competition for the past two years running and has been entering the fete since 2011.

Bjornsson finally bagged the winning spot after coming out on top in the Overhead Press and Loading Race, which gave him an overall score of 51.5 points – not bad for a hard day’s work.

The muscle man finished first in three of the six events in the Philippines, including the vehicle dead-lift, the loading race and the max overhead, he came in second for the truck pulling exercise, fourth in the frame carry and fifth in the atlas stone.

Celebrating his tremendous win online, the GOT star took the time to thank his family and friends for their support: ‘Want to thank all of my family, friends and fans for supporting me along the way.

‘Special thanks to my coach @australianstrengthcoach and my nutritionist @stanefferding.

‘Also want to thank my sponsors, @kjotkompani @sbdapparel @roguefitness. Congratulations to @kieliszkowskimateusz and @shawstrength for their second and third finishes! #numberone.’

Poland’s entrant Mateusz Kieliszkowski finished the competition in second place with a score of 45 points, while the United States competitor Brian Shaw came in a very close third place with a score of 44.

As well as winning the whole competition, the world’s strongest man received his humongous trophy from the former title-holder who said the champ had a ‘well deserved win.’

British champ Eddie Hall, who won the competition in 2017, congratulated his successor on Instagram saying: ‘SPOILER ALERT….From one champion to another….Well done @thorbjornsson well deserved win!!! Worlds Strongest Man 2018 Big Love The Beast.’

With all that lifting, pulling and throwing, the Lannister enemies better watch out.
