San Diego Comic-Con is returning…in digital form! Yes, like this year, the biggest pop cultural event of the year will be remote, which is understandable seeing as how the world is still getting back on its feet following the coronavirus pandemic.

Comic-Con@Home will run from Friday, July 23 through Sunday, July 25, and we’re starting to learn who will (and won’t) be in attendance. For instance, on Sunday, Doctor Who stars Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill will join showrunner Chris Chibnall and new cast member John Bishop, who plays the new companion Dan, for a panel discussion about the upcoming 13th season.

All that and Digital Spy reports that the panel will include a “very special surprise guest.” Might it be a past Doctor? Or perhaps even one of the actors rumored to be playing the 14th Doctor after Whittaker leaves the role behind? Color us intrigued.

We’re all but guaranteed to see a trailer for The Wheel of Time at Comic-Con

There are more reasons to get excited. Amazon’s The Wheel of Time series will have a presence at the event, where showrunner Rafe Judkins will share “exclusive details about our upcoming series.”

We’re gonna get a trailer for the first season, I can feel it.

The Witcher is putting on its own Comic-Con, basically

All that said, not everyone will be taking part in Comic-Con. In fact, Netflix’s The Witcher is having a whole separate event — WitcherCon — starting tomorrow. Here’s Henry Cavill hyping it up:

A trailer for The Witcher season 2, which is due out by the end of the year, seems likely. I wouldn’t be surprised if we got information on a new Witcher video game from CD Projekt Red, either.

If they’re putting on their own event, I assume this means they won’t be at Comic-Con? You do you, Netflix, I guess.

Marvel and DC won’t be at Comic-Con

Finally, Deadline reports that Marvel Studios and DC Films are skipping this year’s Comic-Con@Home, meaning we won’t get anything on EternalsThe BatmanShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten RingsBlack Adam or anything else these folks have cooking.

We’ll see if they come back once Comic-Con is back to being live and in person. DC had success last year with the DC FanDome, which is coming back in October. And Marvel can do anything whenever it wants and people will pay attention, so they probably don’t feel a pressing need to make an appearance.
