The latest Game of Thrones season 8 set leak gives us a first look at what appears to be a new castle destined to debut in the hit TV show.
With production on the next season of Game of Thrones already underway, it’s no surprise that early leaks are popping up. HBO is keen for the final season of Thrones to be just right, which is why talk of the release being delayed until 2019 is looking likelier by the day.
In any case, it seems appropriate that HBO is seriously splashing the cash on season eight. New images that have been leaked online appear to show an enormous new Game of Thrones set that’s being erected next to the Paint Hall studios in Belfast, Northern Ireland – a Thrones filming hotspot.
The images were acquired by Los Siete Reinos and also published by Thrones blog Watchers On The Wall, and can be seen in the following tweet:
This structure had been previously reported on when it was significantly smaller, but it seems that the project has been massively scaled up in size since then. The sprawling complex now appears to resemble a castle-in-progress, and is reportedly built to a similar scale as Thrones’ Winterfell – home of the Stark family.
But a Northern castle this is not: the abundance of windows and reddish hue (which could be modified with cladding, we should add) suggest that this building belongs in sunnier climes. It’s possible that the structure will make up part of the Red Keep, for close-up shots. Alternatively, it could be one of the many grand structures that are scattered across the southern regions of Westeros.
Unfortunately, we might not know the truth for some time, so we’ll just have to stick to speculation for now.
