At this point, there’s no doubt that the enormous King’s Landing set HBO is building at Titanic Studios is the biggest set in the show’s history. It’s probably the biggest set in TV history, and likely gives most big-budget movie sets a run for their money. The crew has been building it for months, and it’s still not done. Twitter’s own brings us new pictures, including yet another new structure added to this monster.
First, let’s take a look at some of the old structures, which are still being touched up. Not long ago, we saw that the crew had added a dome to its manufactured skyline, one modeled after the dome atop St. Blaise’s Church in Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is the real-life city most closely associated with King’s Landing, so this will help HBO when it comes to blending on-location shots with on-set shots. has brought us the clearest shots of the dome yet, taken on one of those rare Northern Irish days when the sky isn’t full of clouds:
We also have a new image of the gate that stands between the two guard towers at the entrance of the set. This part of the set has undergone quite a transformation. First the production built a giant hole in the wall:
Now, a month later, we can see it in its almost completed form:
I’m looking forward to seeing that sucker get blown apart.
Finally, the new kid on the block: a wall added to the southern end of the set, opposite the gate:
Obviously there are some finishing touches to put on that. When filming finally begins on this thing, it’s gonna be an event.
On top of that, GoTlike Locations snapped images of a few more Game of Thrones hotspots. These include Saintfield, where the show was filming scenes in the Winterfell godswood…
…at Shane’s Castle, which has stood in for the Winterfell crypts and Qyburn’s laboratory in the past…
…and at Magheramorne Quarry, where the show is busy filming busloads of people parading in front of a ginormous green screen.
There are reportedly only a few months of filming left, but it’s hard to imagine this train ever slowing down.
