According to the latest updates from local Spanish news outlets, filming for the series is set to begin very soon in Gran Canaria, Spain, but at a different site: La Fortaleza (La Fortaleza de Ansite) in Santa Lucía de Tirajana.
Part of the production team has already been on location for over a month, with full base camp tents and equipment visibly set up since mid-March.

Why the switch?
Production at the original Las Niñas Dam area was halted due to historic rainfall and severe flooding that overflowed the dam. While cleanup continues there, the team is shifting to La Fortaleza, a rugged, mountainous location with rocky terrain that was already prepared as an alternative site. This arid, fortress-like area offers a contrast to the wooded, watery dam setting and is expected to stand in for key scenes in George R.R. Martin’s The Sworn Sword, the novella season 2 is adapting.

What’s next?
Peter Claffey (Dunk) and Dexter Sol Ansell (Egg) are continuing their roles, with seasons 2 and 3 reportedly being filmed back-to-back. The move keeps the production schedule largely on track and brings another economic boost to the Canary Islands. Fans can expect more sun-baked, epic visuals as Dunk and Egg’s adventures continue roughly 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones.
