The BBC has released first look images from its upcoming four‑part adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities. The drama will premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK and on MGM+ in the US, bringing Dickens’ tale of revolution, sacrifice, and redemption to a new audience.

Cast and production details

The series stars Kit Harington as Sydney Carton, François Civil as Charles Darnay, and Mirren Mack as Lucie Manette. It is written by Daniel West (Gunpowder, Top Boy) and directed by Richard Clark (Outlander).

Production is handled by Federation Stories, Federation Studio France, and Thriker Films, with executive producers Polly Williams, Sarah Best, Léo Becker, Kit Harington, and Daniel West. Distribution will be managed by Federation International.

Story details

Set in London, 1782, the series follows Lucie Manette (Mirren Mack), who discovers her father may still be alive in Paris after years of believing him dead. Charles Darnay (François Civil), the French emigré who delivers the news, is arrested for treason. Lucie turns to Sydney Carton (Kit Harington), a brilliant but troubled lawyer, to help free Darnay.
