The friendship between Ser Duncan the Tall and Egg is one of the most loved elements of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. But it turns out the real-life bond between actors Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell is just as heartwarming.
In an interview with Awards Radar, 11-year-old Dexter Sol Ansell (who plays the Prince Aegon “Egg” Targaryen) opened up about his really close off-screen relationship with his co-star Peter Claffey.
Quick read:
- Dexter Sol Ansell and Peter Claffey spend a lot of time together
- The young actor calls the older one his best friend
- They always make an effort to build genuine camaraderie off-screen
Best friends
When asked about working with Peter, Dexter didn’t hold back:
“I’m always with him pretty much every single day. Even the weekends, we go to the arcades together and have fun… we spent a lot of time together, which was really, really fun. We’re best, best friends.”

Along with this, the young actor also revealed that the duo was going to hangout right at that time too, which was a heartwarming detail to share.
The young actor’s genuine enthusiasm shines through as he describes their regular hangouts, from arcade games to weekend adventures, showing that their on-screen chemistry is rooted in a real friendship.
A bromance built on and off the set
This real-life connection mirrors the heart of George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas. In the stories, the unlikely pairing of the humble but honourable knight Dunk and the sharp-witted royal prince Egg forms the emotional core of the tale.
Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell clearly took that bond seriously during filming. Multiple interviews and behind-the-scenes reports confirm they spent significant time together outside of work, strengthening their performances through genuine camaraderie.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms promises a very subtle and character-driven story compared to the large-scale wars of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. At its center is the beautiful, platonic relationship between Dunk and Egg; a story about honour, loyalty, mentorship, and found family.
Having the two lead actors form such a strong real-life bond is the perfect ingredient for authentic on-screen magic.
